Bringing professional and college musicians to Adirondack Classrooms
The Lake Placid Sinfonietta is pleased to present “Quintensity,” a student wind quintet from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester from March 12 through 14 in 2017. The quintet will perform for the public on Sunday, March 12, at St. Eustace Church on Main Street in Lake Placid at 4:00 pm. On Monday and Tuesday, March 13 and 14, the ensemble will visit local schools offering performances, master classes and classroom visits. This year's program is supported in part with a grant from the Glen and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, the Kevin Broderick Fund at the Adirondack Foundation and from donations received at the Winter Wine Tasting event in Lake Placid on January 29.
The Lake Placid Sinfonietta has a strong committment to Music Education. During the summer concert season children are welcome at both casual and more formal concerts, and a dedicated concert for children is performed each summer. During the academic year the Lake Placid Sinfonietta's Education Committee has brought professional musicians and conservatory students to several Adirondack school districts where they have visited elementary music classes, participated in all levels of band lessons and rehearsals, and presented performances for entire student body.
In past years this program has benefitted students of the following districts:
- Lake Placid Elementary School
- Lake Placid Middle-High School
- Northwood School
- St. Agnes School
- North Country School
- Saranac Lake Central School
- Tupper Lake Central School
- Westport Central School
- Johnsburg Central School
- Keene Central School
