Mirella Gable - Horn
Mirella Gable is the third horn of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. A high-demand freelancer, Mirella is often contracted for opera, ballet, music theatre, and chamber music all over the great southern plains. Mirella is an active member of the International Horn Society (IHS) and the International Women’s Brass Conference (IWBC), and has performed at several regional and national conferences.
In addition to her performing career, Mirella is a respected pedagogue. She currently teaches adjunct at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford, OK and the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond, OK, in addition to maintaining a private horn studio in OKC. Previously, Mirella served as the Lead Brass Teacher and Horn teacher for El Sistema Oklahoma and has worked with several youth orchestra programs and all state honor ensembles in Kansas and Oklahoma. Other past appointments include teaching at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, East Central University in Ada, OK, and Bethel College in Newton, KS.
A native of Sewell, NJ, Mirella relocated to the Midwest for postgraduate study. She earned a Master's degree in Horn Performance from Wichita State University (2014). Mirella holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Horn and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music (2010), where she was awarded a Performer’s Certificate. In her limited spare time, Mirella enjoys cultivating her green thumb, indulging in video games and bad movies, and snuggling her two cats, Bilbo and Lily. She and her horn-playing husband (James Rester) love spending their summers in upstate New York and look forward to making the Adirondacks their eventual permanent home.
